refers to the assumption that non-living chemicals ultimately caused simpler chemical structures to build more complex larger molecules which ultimately self-assembled the first living cells. All the ingredients for this imagined event are thought to be found in a “prebiotic soup”. Several theories compete to explain the origin of life but all have this idea of a chemical process as the cause.
